This week we've combined the unpredictability of randomly blown ink and the very predictable quality of printmaking to create beautiful mixed media pictures.
Students looked at their ink patterns (completed with straw blown ink in a previous lesson), deciding how to interpret the random splots and meandering lines. Some decided theirs was a thorn bush, others a coral reef, a tree or an alien landscape. It is all in the eye of the beholder!
We highlighted the negative spaces of our backgrounds with blended fluoro oil pastel.
We then designed an animal, bird or insect that might live in this environment, which we transferred to printing foam. Of course the wonderful thing about printmaking is the ability to make multiple copies of your design! We made four reproductions before choosing our best two or three, which we also embellished with fluoro oil pastel before gluing them to our backgrounds.
